Range and habitat: The Jambu fruit dove lives in the mangrove swamps
and lowland rainforests located in southeastern Asia and Indonesian islands.
Natural diet: Jambu fruit doves, perhaps not surprisingly,
eat fruit.
Size / weight range: This species grows to be a pproximately
9 inches long and weigh about 1 1/2 ounces.
Interesting facts: As shy birds that mostly dwell in the canopy
of the rainforests, Jambu fruit doves rely on the camouflage of their
colors to help them avoid predators.
They are now listed as near threatened due to habitat loss in Indonesia
and Malaysia.
