Range and habitat:
Mainly in woodland and thickets located in southern and eastern Africa.
Natural diet:
Feeds on leaves of many kinds, herbs, fallen fruits, succulents, vines, tubers, flowers and new grass.
Size / weight range:
The shoulder height of a male can be between 48 inches and – 59 inches. The shoulder height of a female can be between 40 inches and 55 inches.
Males can weigh between 400 and 700 pounds. Females can weigh between 200 and 500 pounds.
Males can grow horns up to 80 inches long (as measured along the outer curve).
Interesting Facts:
Only males have horns, and their horns are the largest of any antelope.
Males also have a mane, beard and dewlap for display purposes.
