Range and habitat:
Found in the waters of the north Atlantic Ocean.

Natural diet:
Grey seals eat a wide variety of fish in the wild. At the Toledo Zoo the seals eat herring and capelin.

Size / weight range:
Bulls can grow to lengths between 8 and 11 feet, and weigh up to 660 pounds. Cows can grow to lengths between 5 and 6 1/2 feet long and weigh between 220 and 330 pounds.

Interesting Facts:
The grey seal's scientific name (Halichoerus grypus) means "hooked nose sea pig" in Latin.
Pups are born between September and November in the eastern Atlantic and in the western Atlantic they are born between January and February.
Pups grow fast because their mothers' milk is extremely rich in fat.
