Conservation—it’s
at the center of our mission. The Zoo is involved with many projects
that are helping ensure a future for countless animals, and there
are a number of ways you can help.
As we unify our conservation projects, we have created
one umbrella program—Conservation Today. It makes
sense that the ARC Fund (Animal Rescue and Conservation Fund) would
become a part of Conservation Today. Contributors to the
former ARC Fund will now see the new name and emblem when receiving
donor invitations and other mail pieces to support our program.
Funds generated through Conservation Today
help support many conservation programs, benefiting several species,
including the cheetah and the amphibian crisis.
Which
species can you support through
Conservation Today? |
You
can help the Aruba Island Rattlesnake!
Twenty years ago this snake’s future was uncertain. We
helped establish a national park in Aruba, and today we’re
working to ensure a future for the rattlesnake and many other
animals on the island. |

 |
You
can help the polar bear!
The
ice in the Arctic is melting, making hunting harder for polar
bears. Bears are starving and even drowning as their home melts!
Today, we’re partnering with Polar Bears International
to conserve this species. |
You
can help the cheetah!
Cheetahs
need a lot of room to move, but loss of habitat and persecution
means there population is shrinking fast! Today, we’re
participating in a Species Survival Plan that will help save
cheetahs from extinction. |

You can help the Puerto Rican crested toad!
For
years, this endangered animal was only breeding in a flooded
dirt parking lot near a beach. Today, we’re helping establish
a new population on the island, aiding greatly in the toads’
recovery. |
You
can help the Kihansi spray toad!
This
tiny toad’s habitat in the Kihansi gorge in Tanzania was
destroyed when a dam was built there. Today, we’re working
to reintroduce these toads to their habitat. |

 |
You
can help the Karner blue butterfly!
This tiny, endangered butterfly has seen much of its habitat
lost to development, and invasive species have shaded out its
food supply. Today, we’re reintroducing thousands of Karner
blues into the Oak Openings. |
You
can support these species simply by adding $1 to your total purchase
in our North Star Gift Shop. You can also make a direct gift via
e-mail, or use our
printable
donation form. 100% of these proceeds will go to the Zoo's
conservation efforts. |
