Scout Badge Programs

Assemble all of your scouts and head down to The Toledo Zoo for a fun-filled class of animal exploration that will let you fulfill scout badge requirements. Scout programs are available from October through May. Program fees include Zoo admission, an animal introduction, on-grounds exploration and more.  NEW: weekday programs now available in addition to our regular Saturday programs.

  • One adult chaperone is admitted free with every 5 scouts.
  • NOTE: Additional adults wishing to come on the field trip may enter the Zoo by paying admission or using their Toledo Zoo membership cards. While scouts are in their badge program, additional guests are asked to visit the Zoo exhibits and grounds and rejoin scouts after program completion.
  • Free Parking at the Anthony Wayne side of the Zoo and present your confirmation upon entering.

  • Make a picture frame from recycled materials
  • Explore of the Zoo and the Aquarium

Electives: 4, 21, 31, 34, 42 and 47 will be completed of water conservation and recycling and the affect it has on out world. What different animal vocalizations mean and the different kinds of animal communication.

The Bear Scouts will complete achievement 5 and begin achievement 6. The scouts will learn about endangered and extinct animals. They will learn the importance of taking care of our feathered neighbors and why recycling and conservation are so important and make a bird house to take home.  They will also learn what one of the staff at the Toledo Zoo really do?

  • Reptile exploration
  • Learn differences between venomous and poisonous
  • Play a food chain game

  • Learn about the dangers of litter

The boys will complete the Naturalist portion of the Outdoor group by completing activities 4, 7, 9, 10, and 12.
The scouts will learn about venomous and non-venomous reptiles. They will also learn about poisonous plants, and how to identify them. What to do when you are exposed. And why do these plants have these defense methods. They will also learn about animal life cycles, ecosystems and carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Animal diets and enrichments will be covered.

  • Play a conservation game
  • Make a bird feeder to take home and place in your yard to observe the birds in your neighborhood
  • Tour the Aviary and complete a scavenger hunt
  • Clean up part of Walbridge Park (weather permitting)

Achievement: 7A. 7B, 7C, 7E, Your Living World will be completed and Elective 13E, (make a bird feeder) OR 13F (make a bird house). They will begin elective 13.The scouts will learn about pollution, recycling, and conservation and the effects they have on our environment. They will learn about animal habitats. They will also learn how long it takes different types of garbage to biodegrade.

The Daisy Girl Scout will learn how the different animals move around. While going on the alphabet hike they will learn about our animals from the African Savanna to the deepest oceans. They will draw a picture of what they learned at the zoo and tell all about it.

When the Brownie Girl Scout becomes an official Toledo Zoo entomologists they will fill requirements needed to earn the Bugs badge. They will learn why insects are so important and what foods they may eat. They will learn about insects by observing them by how they move and their basic anatomy. They will also learn about ants, how they live, survive and work together as a colony.

Fill requirements needed to earn the Watching Wildlife badge. The Brownie Girl Scout will learn how animals communicate and what foods they may eat. They will learn about earth worms by observing them by how they move and their basic anatomy. They will learn about ants, how they live, survive and work together as a colony. They will also learn why different animals have different coats.

The Brownie Girl Scout will fill all of the requirements needed to earn the Eco-Explorer Tri-It badge. They will learn what animals need to survive, what foods they eat and what their habitats are like. Help their animal neighbors by making a bird feeder. They will learn about food chains and make their own habitat.

The Junior Girl Scout will earn all of the requirements needed to earn the Water Wonders badge. They will learn all about life underwater, what animals eat, how they hibernate, and their adaptations. They will learn all about food chains and how important they are to the animals’ survival. The differences between salt and freshwater are compared. The characteristics of a desert and the adaptations of the animals that live there will be examined.
