Learn about our Outreach program -- The Zoo comes to retirement centers with live animals and more (FREE in Lucas County)

 

On weekdays through September and October, seniors will receive the following benefits:
• FREE parking in the Anthony Wayne Trail lot
• FREE small fresh-brewed coffee and a mini-muffin at the Timberline Bakery;
• 10% discount on Toledo Zoo memberships
• A special senior-only 20% discount on items purchased in the North Star Trading Post® gift shop.
• Seniors also receive FREE admission on Tuesdays. It's a great way to reconnect with your Toledo Zoo!
• Caregivers who are directly responsible for assisting seniors during Senior Discovery Days and Senior Safari are eligible for free Zoo admission. Please pre-register with the Zoo’s Visitor Services Department by calling (419) 389-6561 before your visit. Please note: This offer only applies to professional caregivers. Regular admission rates will apply for volunteers and relatives of visiting seniors.

September 6
**Join us for guided tour of the historic Museum of Science and Amphitheatre, two of the Zoo’s five WPA era buildings. These two historic buildings are sure to bring back a lot of memories.

September 13
Win great “ZOO-venirs” as we present Bingo with a Zoo twist! African Lodge from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m

September 20 -- SENIOR SAFARI
Seniors receive FREE admission.
Join the Toledo Zoo and Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio for a fun day focused on seniors, including health screens, exercise, safety tips and Zoo exploration! Lunch will be provided in the Nairobi Pavilion and tickets may be purchased in advance by calling the Area Office on Aging at (419) 382-0624.

September 27
**Join us for a guided tour of the Aviary, renovated back in 1998. Its three walk-through habitats — the African Grasslands, Sonoran Desert and Australian Outback — are an experience all their own. Plus, be sure to show off your short game on our nine-hole miniature golf course, located in the Main Plaza from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.!

October:

October 4
**Join us for a Garden Tour and stroll through the Zoo’s beautiful butterfly, rose, vegetable, herb, and formal perennial gardens to see how they grow, bloom and change throughout the season, and learn how to prepare your garden for winter and next spring from one our Master Gardeners.


Also, another chance to win great “ZOO-venirs” as we present Bingo with a Zoo twist! African Lodge from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

October 11
Check out the big band sounds of Jeff McDonald’s Big Band Revival Orchestra from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Nairobi Pavilion!

October 18
**The Aquarium is the fourth stop on the WPA building tour. This remarkable building houses a diverse collection of underwater creatures and is among the largest zoo aquariums in the Midwest.

October 18
**The Reptile House is the last stop on our guided WPA tour. Learn about the history of the building while getting a close up view of the Zoo’s reptile collection.

**To reserve a spot for one of our WPA building tours or the Garden tour, please call (419) 385-5721, ext. 2110. Tours will meet in the Main Plaza, near the Zoo PAL Board at 10:45 a.m., with all tours beginning at 11:00 a.m. Each tour will last between 30 and 60 minutes.

Wheelchairs & Motorized Scooters are available to rent.

Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs are $5.00. Although it is not required, it is strongly recommended you reserve your wheelchair in advance by calling (419) 389-6561. In addition to the rental fee, an ID will be held until the wheelchair is returned.
