ZOOtoDO

Friday, June 15, 2012

ZOOtoDO —a chic, black-tie and tennis shoes affair that’s strictly for the grown-ups. With over fifty of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers and live music on multiple stages, ZOOtoDO spotlights the sophisticated side of the Zoo.

This year you may notice our tag line of “Party With A Purpose.”  We wanted to remind all of our partners that ZOOtoDO is much more than one of Toledo’s premiere social events.  ZOOtoDO also provides essential funding for the continued development of community outreach and on-site educational opportunities as well as state-of-the-art care and exhibits for the animals housed at our facility.  One hundred percent of the net proceeds raised from this event support our daily operations. Your investment in ZOOtoDO helps ensure that children of all ages can enjoy one of Toledo’s historic treasures for generations to come.

Toledo Zoo Snow Leopard Fun Facts

  • Although snow leopards are solitary animals in the wild, the Toledo Zoo's snow leopards, Niko and Milenka, are very compatible and enjoy each others company while they are outside during the day. Most recently, you can see them snuggling up together in their exhibit and grooming each other.
  • Just like a house cat enjoys catnip, we use different spices as a form of enrichment for our snow leopards. Niko enjoys just about any spice, but Milenka enjoys anise, a spice known for its licorice-like taste. Spices are sprinkled on various items like straw, woodwool or logs, or in boxes and bags.
  • Snow leopards are acrobatic hunters and can show off some fancy moves when catching their prey. Niko has been known to catch birds right out of the air when they fly into his exhibit.
  • Can you identify which spots belong to a snow leopard?
