Africa!
Now Open!
The most ambitious project in Toledo Zoo history—Africa!—opened
to the public on May 1, 2004. The final project of Zoo 2005: A Master
Plan for the Toledo Zoo, Africa! encompasses a total of 12 acres.
The five-acre main exhibit, landscaped to replicate the plains of
Africa (complete with simulated termite mounds), features free-roaming
African animals, including Masai giraffe, Grant's zebra, greater
kudu, Nile lechwe, wildebeest, impala, ostrich, East African crowned
cranes, helmeted guineafowl and more. A separate .6-acre enclosure
houses the Zoo's African wild dogs.
