Bring the whole family to experience the wonder of Chinese lanterns! Your Zoo will illuminate the night with 500+ lanterns in the shapes of animals and botanicals positioned to tell mini-stories throughout the grounds. Individual lanterns can be upwards of 19 feet tall and nearly 50 feet long and symbolize illuminating the future and the reunion of family. Come see what all the shine is about!

On Monday, October 23, community groups are invited to construct non-scary scarecrows out of recycled and repurposed materials to win a night at Lights Before Christmas and benefit the Zoo’s mission. Groups must sign up in advance.

Family Pumpkin Carving*

October 2, 9, 16 - Bring the family to learn from a professional carver how to make the most creative and fun jack-o-lanterns! This is a hands-on activity and each family will go home with their own carved pumpkin! Event will take place in the Events Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. *Registration required

Tuesdays
Lantern Demonstration

Watch Chinese artisans as they demonstrate how the amazing and intricate lanterns are made! Demonstrations will take place in the Main Plaza.

Wednesdays
Pie Eating Contest*

Win bragging rights and cool Zoo-venirs as the weekly pumpkin pie eating winner! Open to all ages. *Registration is suggested

Thursdays
Woodcarving

Enjoy watching the amazing skills of a local woodcarver as he turns a piece of wood into a masterful work of art! Demonstration will take place in the Main Plaza.

Saturdays
Awesome Autumn Games

Challenge your family and friends to a free and friendly game of giant pick up sticks, giant jenga, cornhole and more! Games will be in the Events Pavilion from 6:30 - 9 p.m.
