New Event, Luminous Nights at the Zoo! We are excited to announce our new autumn evening event, Luminous Nights! This event will feature illuminated, hand-crafted Chinese lanterns in the shapes of animals, and botanicals and will run from September 29 – October 29! Due to this amazing event, we new hires will have the opportunity to work evening hours as well as weekends! Those hours could then carry over into our famous Light Before Christmas season!

Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

Normal work week requires working flexible hours including weekends and holidays. Positions may require working in all weather conditions, the ability to stand for extended periods of time and walk extensively on Zoo grounds.

Part-Time Positions Currently Open

Back of House Catering Crew (Part-Time) – Employees prepare food for a variety of catered events that could include banquets, picnics, weddings, special member events, public events and other catered events. Will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of department. Hiring cooks, dishwashers and cold and hot food prep staff. Previous experience working in back of house operations a plus!

Bartenders (Part-Time) – These positions are responsible for bartending during events at various sites, following policies and procedures and working with clients to ensure customer satisfaction. May also organizes and maintains stock areas and assists with inventory/audits. Requires bartending experience, knowledge of food sanitation guidelines and exceptional customer service skills. Supervisor candidates must have at least 1-2 years supervisory food service experience. Must be available nights and weekends and be 21 years of age.

Carnivore Café Crew (Part-Time) – Employees of the Cafe provide fast, friendly service to Zoo guests. Positions include deli staff, cooks, front line staff, hospitality staff, and production staff. May be responsible for maintaining cleanliness of department, running cash registers, cooking, food preparation and serving. Customer service and the ability to engage guests as well as the ability to work well on a team required.

Catering Office Assistant – (Part Time) Part-Time Office Assistant is needed to assist the Catering Front of the House Managers with general office duties such as answering phone calls and voice mail, opening mail, handling any catering requests, communicating requests with managers, scheduling staff for their shifts, ordering inventory for events, scheduling interviews, and preparing for catering events. This position works directly with the Catering Front of the House Managers and customer service is a top priority. We are looking for someone who is friendly and outgoing and who has previous office administrative experience with a solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Concessions Crew (Part-Time) – Employees will work in one of our many concessions area throughout the Zoo, will work in a fast-paced environment and will have high visitor interaction. Responsibilities could include cash handling, working with food preparation, working in concession stands, and maintaining cleanliness of department. Applicants over 21 years of age may also be considered for our Kibanda stand, where alcohol is served. Outgoing personality required for all positions!

Front of House Catering Crew (Part-Time) – The Toledo Zoo is accepting applications for part-time Front of House Catering crew. Employees are responsible for set up and tear down as well as management of catered Zoo events that could include banquets, picnics, weddings, special member events, public events, concerts and other catered events. Looking to hire servers and bartenders. Applicants must be available to work weekday events as well as evening and weekend events. Catering, restaurant and food service experience a plus and bartender candidates must be 21 years of age. The Zoo is an EOE and a drug/alcohol free workplace.

Front of House Catering Supervisor (Part-Time) – This position is responsible for overseeing employees and events at various Zoo sites, including our brand new, renovated event center, Malawi. Supervisor will manage the front of house catering team, follow policies and procedures and work with clients to ensure customer satisfaction. Requires knowledge of food sanitation guidelines, exceptional customer service skills and at least 1-2 years supervisory food service experience. Must be available nights and weekends.

Grounds Crew(Part-Time) – Performs custodial and/or grounds maintenance duties for the Toledo Zoo. Work involves cleaning buildings and restrooms. In addition, provides the services necessary to maintain the cleanliness, safe conditions, sanitation, and pick-up appearance of all Zoo grounds, especially those areas open to the public. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.

Horticulture (Part-Time) – Horticulture staff maintain all of the permanent landscapes and include mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, planting and maintaining the annual flower beds, rake leaves, and maintain ornamental water features. They also assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.

Membership Sales Associate (Part Time) – This position is a front line sales position and requires approaching Zoo visitors to solicit the sale of Zoo membership’s on-grounds. Position will also assist with various administrative tasks. Must have experience working with computer systems and have the ability to approach guests in a fun, positive manner. Merchandise Crew – In-Park Merchandise and North Star Gift Shop (Part-Time) – Employees assist visitors with merchandise selections, stock merchandise, operate cash registers, maintain cleanliness of department and provide excellent customer service to Zoo guests. Customer service and retail experience a plus!

Park Operations Crew (Part-Time) – Employees take care of a variety of visitor needs throughout the Zoo and may work in the following areas; Admissions, Parking Lot, Rides, Cashier, Zoo Exhibits (Aquarium Touch Tank, Penguin walkthrough and Galapagos Tortoise exhibits). Will also assist with event set up and clean up and provide excellent customer service to all Zoo guests. These positions require outgoing, friendly and energetic individuals who engage guests throughout the park while maintaining the safety of both guest and animals.

Security (Part-Time) – Effectively carry out safety and security policies that provide for protection of visitors, employees, animals and zoo assets. Duties will include but are not limited to monitoring and reporting on the following: air & water temperatures, water filtration systems, intruder/fire detection and camera surveillance equipment. Prefer candidates with coursework related to criminal justice, law enforcement or fire science. Positions are for 1st shift and the midnight shift. Warehouse Crew/Driver Warehouse employees are responsible for stocking shelves, unloading shipments and conducting pickup and deliveries on and off Zoo grounds. Warehouse Receiving/Ticketing Supervisor (Part-Time) – Looking for a motivated individual to coordinate receiving, merchandise transfers and ticketing and will be responsible for supervising part-time and/or seasonal ticketing staff. This position may require you to lift up to 65 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds continuously, climb ladders and be on your feet for long periods of time. Will also assist with receiving, tagging, picking and stocking of merchandise. The position reports directly to the warehouse manager. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required and the applicant must have the ability to learn receiving software. Receiving experience preferred. This position will work 25-28 hours per week.
