We strive to bring you the best experience at the Toledo Zoo while providing the best care of our animals and their habitats. Periodic construction and maintenance are part of this commitment, and occasionally exhibits and facilities may close temporarily for construction or maintenance. We apologize if any of your favorite exhibits are closed during your planned visit, and we hope that you will still join us for a day of adventure.

Construction Updates

Last updated on March 19, 2014
Our construction updates often refer to specific locations and/or zoo exhibits.  Click here to open a PDF version of the Zoo’s guide map for a visual reference to help identify any locations mentioned below.

Multispecies Africa! exhibit: these warm-climate animals are off exhibit throughout cool winter months; however, indoor giraffe viewing is available for visitors
Waterfowl pond near Aviary: this area is closed while we prepare for the new Flamingo Key exhibit that opens on May 23, 2014
Aquarium: see note below

Important note to all visitors planning to arrive at our Broadway entrance:

Due to the Aquarium’s construction, foot traffic entering our Broadway entrance is currently diverted through our Amphitheatre. During the summer months, the Amphitheatre hosts the Summer Concert Series, and on concert days, the Broadway entrance may be closed for concert set-up. This would require visitors to enter and exit the Zoo from our entrance at the Anthony Wayne Trail. Click here to view the Summer Concert Series schedule.

Aquarium

The Toledo Zoo’s Aquarium is closed for a long term renovation project that will be completed in 2015.  The area surrounding the Aquarium, including the path between the Aquarium and the Amphitheatre may be closed during the construction phase. When needed, signs may be present in the area with info and directions for detours.

What’s going to happen to the Aquarium?
The Aquarium building’s historic WPA architecture will be preserved during the construction phase, but the interior is being completely remodeled. While visitors and Zoo staff will surely miss the Aquarium during its renovation phase, we are very excited about unveiling the newly remodeled Aquarium in 2015. Stay tuned!
