Know Before You Go

These updates refer to specific locations and/or zoo exhibits you may want to be aware of before planning your visit.  Click here to open a PDF version of the Zoo’s guide map for a visual reference to help identify any locations mentioned below:

Museum of Science
The Museum of Science is closed for daytime hours during Lights Before Christmas. Museum doors open daily at 5 p.m. so visitors can meet with Santa, enjoy concessions, and watch Douglas the Talking Tree in the Indoor Theatre. The Museum also includes the Amazing Amphibians exhibit (frogs, toads, and salamanders) and the Crawl Space exhibit (insects, spiders, and other arthropods) which will be open to all visitors after 5 p.m.

Tasmanian Devils
If you are excited to meet our new Tasmanian devils, please visit them before 5:00 p.m. when they go off exhibit each day. We apologize that they will not be available during Lights Before Christmas evening hours.

The Africa! exhibit and adjacent overlook will be closed until Spring 2016 for the construction of the Giraffe Feed Deck and the Aerial Adventure Course. The Safari Railway will also be closed during this time. Animals featured at the Africa! exhibit include giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, ostriches, impala, greater kudu, and other bird species. These animals typically are not on display during the winter season or cold weather.

Lions will occasionally be off exhibit during construction through Spring 2016.

From Memorial Day through Labor day we invite you to enjoy all of your favorite Zoo concessions. In off seasons, be sure to visit Timberline Bakery on the north side and Carnivore Café on the south side for your food and beverage needs.
