How do I apply?

To apply for a position at the Toledo Zoo, pick up an application at our Visitor Services office which is located at the main entrance off Anthony Wayne Trail. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

Full-time Positions we are currently hiring for:

Group Sales Manager & Account Executive

The Toledo Zoo is recruiting for a full time Group Sales Manager and Account Executive. Responsibilities include, establishing business clients and corporations in Northwest Ohio and Southern Michigan, developing and marketing consignment and advanced sales, collaborating with various departments for catered events, picnics, business meetings and after-hours events and parties. Showcasing the Zoo to the motor coach and tour industry as a premier destination stop and preparing the annual budget for the department. Position reports to the Assistant Director of Group Sales and Catering. Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field and a minimum of one year experience in commissioned sales, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo’s fleet insurance carrier. Part-Time Wedding Coordinator

This position is a part time seasonal position that runs from May – October.  Duties include meeting with clients to arrange and plan events, working with Catering & Group Sales to set up, assist and tend to clients’ requests. Attendance at events is necessary to ensure complete customer satisfaction, so candidates must be available on weekends and evenings and be in professional attire. Must have excellent phone and interpersonal skills and be able to work under (some) stressful situations. Previous catering, wedding or customer service experience is required.

Security

Part time team oriented facility security needed for all shifts, 24 hours per week and may include holidays & weekends. Responsibilities include security rounds, monitoring of building intrusion/fire detection systems, air/water temperature ranges and water filtration systems. Prefer candidates with law enforcement or fire science background.

Visitor Services Office Assistant

             
Part-time position is available for an outgoing, articulate individual to assist with daily office activities. This position requires working some weekends and nights. Must be computer literate with excellent data entry skills, outstanding phone etiquette, detail oriented, and able to work with internal and external customers.

Baker/Cake Decorator

Part time Baker needed with 2-5 years of experience. Food sanitation certification preferred. Must have experience decorating (Wedding, Birthday, & Shower cakes) and utilize current decorating trends (fondant, buttercream, airbrush, etc.). Responsibilities include: “From scratch” baking of all baked goods, and good customer service skills. Weekday and weekend availability is required.

Park Operations Exhibit Experience Position

The Toledo Zoo is seeking individuals to work a variety of Customer Experience based exhibits. These exhibits include but are not limited to the Aquarium Touch Tank (shark and ray touch opportunity), Parakeet Retreat (bird feeding opportunity), Penguin Walkthrough, and Galapagos Tortoise exhibits. These positions require outgoing, friendly and energetic individuals who engage guests at these exhibits while maintaining the safety of both guest and animals alike. Employees will be required to learn specific facts about the collection in order to answer guest questions and to better engage them during their visits.

Background in animal study/care is preferred, but not required.

Applicants must be able to stand on their feet for 8 hours, lift up to 50 lbs. and be available to work nights and weekends.

This position reports to the Special Events Supervisor in the Park Operations Department.

Membership Associate


Part time Membership Associate needed to work May – Sept. 7. Must be available to work 24 hrs. per week, including some weekends and holidays. Duties include data entry, answering phones, & misc. secretarial duties. Must have excellent customer service and computer skills. Pay is $8.20 an hour. Wedding Coordinator

Catering Food Production:
Employees prepare food for a variety of in-house catered events.
Positions: Picnics, Box lunches, Weddings, Dinner Parties
Job Functions: Dishwashers, Cold Prep, Hot Prep, Grill, Clean-up

Catering:
Responsible for taking care of the client(s) and running catered events.
Positions: Banquets, Picnics, Dinners, Weddings
Job Functions: Set-up, Clean-Up, Tear-Down, Servers, Bartenders

Food Service

Carnivore Cafe:
Employees of the Cafe provide fast, friendly service in a cafeteria-style setting.
Positions: Grill, Hospitality, Deli, Cooler
Job Functions: Cleanup, Cook, Servers, Cashier, Food Prep

Concessions: Fast-paced food service with high visitor interaction and accurate cash handling.
Positions: Concession stands, Birthday parties, Vending

Grounds

Roamers:
Roamers continually walk the property to clean up the litter, pull trash, clean trash cans and graphics. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Clean-up, Trash collection

Horticulture

Horticulture staff maintain all of the permanent landscapes and include mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, planting and maintaining the annual flower beds, rake leaves, and maintain ornamental water features. They also assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Mowing, Planting, general maintenance of landscaping, installation and removal of holiday lights displays.

Horticulture:
Horticulture staff assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.

Merchandise

Merchandise:
Employees assist visitors with merchandise selections, provide outstanding customer .service, and accurate cash handling.

Park Operations

Park Operations: Employees take care of a variety of visitor needs throughout the zoo.
