How do I apply?

To apply for a position at the Toledo Zoo, pick up an application at our Visitor Services office which is located at the main entrance off Anthony Wayne Trail. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

Full-time Positions we are currently hiring for:

Night Keeper

The primary responsibility of this position will be to facilitate the experiences of participants in the Zoo Snooze programs. This keeper will accomplish this working with the Snooze hosts. This position is responsible for delivering accurate, relevant and fun information/facts about a designated exhibit. Night Keepers will answer questions, include participants in keeper related activities, and assist in creating enrichment. This position requires a person able to engage both a diverse group (children as young as 5 up to adults) and a large group (50+ people) of participants.

When the keeper is not participating in Snooze programs they will be providing assistance with projects in the mammal, elephant, bird, AQ, Herpetology, and animal health and nutrition departments. These duties include but are not limited to diet preparation, record keeping, facility cleaning, animal shifting, hand-rearing of different taxa. Due to the wide variety of duties this person must be detail oriented, a motivated worker, and good communicator.

Requires an Associate degree in an applied science related to actual animal care and one to two years zookeeper experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.

Associate Veterinarian

Under the direction of the Chief Veterinarian/Director of Animal Health & Nutrition, this individual is responsible for providing care to all zoo animals. The essential functions include: performing routine, preventative, emergency and surgical care, prescribing medication, and conducting clinical pathology and post mortem evaluations. As necessary will assist in managing the commissary operations, evaluate nutrition programs and diet formulations and provide input on animal behavior training, exhibit design and emergency escape protocols. Effective interdepartmental communication skills necessary to assist veterinary department staff, curators, zookeepers, and other staff in attaining relevant goals.

The minimum criteria requirement includes a Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine and one year of practical experience in a zoo facility. Must be able to obtain a State of Ohio Veterinary License, USDA veterinary accreditation and a DEA license.  Being boarded by the American College of Zoological Medicine is preferred or must become boarded within three years of hire.

Assistant Director of Information Technology

The Toledo Zoo is seeking a full time Assistant Director of IT to manage and maintain the IT environment. This will be a working manager that will work at all levels of support including help desk, server administration, network administration, and technical support. Will also be supervising a team of IT employees. This position manages the IT Budget, IT projects and procures all IT equipment for the organization. Must be highly self-motivated with proven analytical abilities to execute the following essential tasks along with strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications:
•      Microsoft Server administration: Office 365/exchange 2010 hybrid environment, Windows server 2012/2008, Windows Active Directory (AD) 2012 administration, AD group policy management, MS SQL server 2005/2008 management, backupexec 2014, WSUS, and IIS server. VMWare Sphere 5 and vRanger backup administration. PowerShell and SharePoint experience is a plus.
•      Hands on technical knowledge of current networking hardware, standards and TCP/IP protocols, DNS, DHCP, ISCSI, SAN, NAS, Wireless, VOIP, Routing and switching protocols. Fortinet Firewall and HP switch experience is a plus.
•      Provide high level technical support for end user desktop and laptops.
Preferred qualifications include:
•      BS in Information Technology or Computer Science
•      5 years hands on experience and 3 years supervisory experience
•      Microsoft server certifications and VMWare training/certification or equivalent experience in a Multi-Campus LAN environment

Audio/Visual Technician

This part time position will be responsible for set up and operate audio and video equipment including microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, connecting wires and cables, sound boards, and related electronic equipment for concerts, meetings, weddings, presentations, and news conferences for various departments throughout the Zoo. This position reports directly to the Information Technology Manager. Must have availability to work most weekends, evenings and some holidays.

Must have experience with audio visual equipment and basic experience with computer and printer installs and all versions of Microsoft windows. Must have a High School Diploma. Membership Services / Sales Associate

Part-Time position in the Toledo Zoo’s Membership Sales Department.  Position requires approaching Zoo visitors to solicit the sale of Zoo memberships on-grounds and assist the Membership Dept. with various administrative tasks.  Approximately 28 hours per week April through September and November and December. Fewer hours in October, January, February and March. Must be able to work year round, including evenings and weekends.  Must be computer literate, the ability to learn Counter Point POS and Raiser’s Edge, have an outgoing personality, excellent phone etiquette, and the ability to work with a variety of people.  Position requires working in all weather conditions, the ability to stand for extended periods of time and walk extensively on Zoo grounds.  Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.  The pay is hourly wage plus commission.  Please submit your resume to HR Recruiting Manager at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or fill out an application at our Visitor Services department which is located off of the Anthony Wayne Trail by August 1st, 2015.

Part Time Baker / Cake Decorator

P/T Baker needed with 2-5 years of experience. Food sanitation certification preferred. Must have experience decorating (Wedding, Birthday, & Shower cakes) and utilize current decorating trends (fondant, buttercream, airbrush, etc.). Responsibilities include: “From scratch” baking of all baked goods, and good customer service skills. Part-Time Catering Front of House Supervisor

Part-time Supervisor position available in the Catering Front of House department. This position is responsible for overseeing events at various sites, supervising the catering staff, following policies and procedures and working with clients to ensure customer satisfaction.  Requires knowledge of food sanitation guidelines, exceptional customer service skills and at least 1-2 years supervisory food service experience. Shuttle Bus Driver

Position operates the Zoo’s Courtesy shuttle bus to transport guests of events from the Main Entrance to the back parking lot. The main route of the shuttle bus is entirely within Zoo grounds, but there may be shifts which require guests to be transported on and off-site. Applicants must exhibit strong communication, customer service and multi-tasking skills and have the ability to work in a fast paced environment. This position is part of our Park Operations Department, so when not driving, other duties may be assigned including, but not limited to, computer work, money handling and guest service. Applicants must be available to work weekends and nights and will work an average of 28 hours/week from Memorial Day to Labor Day and around 20 hours/week during the Lights Before Christmas season. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a valid Class B commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement, a current DOT Medical Evaluation and have a clean driving record and at least one year experience driving commercially. This position reports to the Park Operations Manager. Catering

Bartender Supervisor
Part-time #2 Supervisor position available in the Catering department. This position is responsible for overseeing bartenders and events at various sites, supervising the staff, following policies and procedures and working with clients to ensure customer satisfaction.  Also organizes and maintains stock areas and assists with inventory/audits. Requires bartending experience, knowledge of food sanitation guidelines, exceptional customer service skills and at least 1-2 years supervisory food service experience. Must be available nights and weekends. This position reports directly to the Senior Catering Manager. Employees of the Cafe provide fast, friendly service in a cafeteria-style setting.

Horticulture

Horticulture staff maintain all of the permanent landscapes and include mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, planting and maintaining the annual flower beds, rake leaves, and maintain ornamental water features. They also assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Mowing, Planting, general maintenance of landscaping, installation and removal of holiday lights displays.

Warehouse

Warehouse: Employees must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
