How do I apply?
To apply for a position at the Toledo Zoo, pick up an application at our Visitor Services office which is located at the main entrance off Anthony Wayne Trail. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

One-year Contracted Positions:
Associate Veterinarian - 1-year contract
Under the direction of the Chief Veterinarian/Director of Animal Health & Nutrition, this individual is responsible for providing care to all zoo animals. This position is a one year contracted position that could lead to a permanent position, but that is not guaranteed. The essential functions include: performing routine, preventative, emergency and surgical care, prescribing medication, and conducting clinical pathology and post mortem evaluations. As necessary will assist in managing the commissary operations, evaluate nutrition programs and diet formulations and provide input on animal behavior training, exhibit design and emergency escape protocols. Effective interdepartmental communication skills necessary to assist veterinary department staff, curators, zookeepers, and other staff in attaining relevant goals.
The minimum criteria requirement includes a Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine and one year of practical experience in a zoo facility. Must be able to obtain a State of Ohio Veterinary License within 6 weeks of the start date of the contract. USDA veterinary accreditation and a DEA license. Being boarded by the American College of Zoological Medicine is preferred.

Part-Time Veterinary Technician Assistant
Security – 3rd Shift
This part time position will be responsible for set up and operate audio and video equipment including microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, connecting wires and cables, sound boards, and related electronic equipment for concerts, meetings, weddings, presentations, and news conferences for various departments throughout the Zoo. This position reports directly to the Information Technology Manager. Must have availability to work most weekends, evenings and some holidays.

Catering Food Production:
Employees prepare food for a variety of in-house catered events.
Positions: Picnics, Box lunches, Weddings, Dinner Parties
Job Functions: Dishwashers, Cold Prep, Hot Prep, Grill, Clean-up
Front of House Catering:
Responsible for taking care of the client(s) and running catered events.
Positions: Banquets, Picnics, Dinners, Weddings
Job Functions: Set-up, Clean-Up, Tear-Down, Servers, Bartenders
Employees of the Cafe provide fast, friendly service in a cafeteria-style setting.
Positions: Grill, Hospitality, Deli, Cooler
Job Functions: Cleanup, Cook, Servers, Cashier, Food Prep
Concessions: Fast-paced food service with high visitor interaction and accurate cash handling.
Positions: Concession stands, Birthday parties, Vending
Job Functions: Customer service, Food Prep, Cashier, Cleaning
Work involves cleaning lobby areas, restrooms, conference rooms, and guest houses. In addition provides the services necessary to maintain the cleanliness, safe conditions, sanitation, and pick-up appearance of all Zoo grounds, especially those areas open to the public. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18.
Christmas Lights installation:
Horticulture staff assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Installation and removal of holiday lights displays
Employees assist visitors with merchandise selections, provide outstanding customer .service, and accurate cash handling.
Positions: Gift Shop, Gift Carts, Rentals, Photo Opportunities

Park Operations: Employees take care of a variety of visitor needs throughout the zoo.

Warehouse: Employees must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
