How do I apply?

To apply for a position at the Toledo Zoo, pick up an application at our Visitor Services office which is located at the main entrance off Anthony Wayne Trail. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

Enrichment Coordinator Animal Behavior / Administration Department

This year round part time position, under limited supervision, will work with the Curator of Behavioral Husbandry and Research and zoo keepers to coordinate the scheduling of enrichment throughout the zoo, and on developing and validating assessment methods for enrichment to assess the effectiveness of enrichment programming.  This position will also be responsible for the training of new enrichment and research interns and implementing programs that engage the public. Critical components of this program include researching new enrichment techniques, evaluating enrichment offered, scheduling random enrichment, systematic documentation and evaluation of enrichment initiatives, and evaluation of the effectiveness of enrichment on animal behavior and welfare.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Biology or related field and 1 year of experience in animal care and environmental enrichment or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must have excellent observational skills, communication abilities - both written and oral, and be able to work both as part of a team and independently. The Zoo is an EOE and drug/alcohol free workplace. Position has a starting rate of $10.00 an hour. Catering #2 Front of House Supervisor

Part-time #2 Supervisor position available in the Catering Front of House department. This position is responsible for overseeing events at various sites, supervising the catering staff, following policies and procedures and working with clients to ensure customer satisfaction.  Requires knowledge of food sanitation guidelines, exceptional customer service skills and at least 1-2 years supervisory food service experience. Must be available nights and weekends. This position reports directly to the Senior Catering Manager.

Security

Part time team oriented facility security needed for all shifts, 24 hours per week and may include holidays & weekends. Responsibilities include security rounds, monitoring of building intrusion/fire detection systems, air/water temperature ranges and water filtration systems. Prefer candidates with law enforcement or fire science background.

Visitor Services Office Assistant

             
Part-time position is available for an outgoing, articulate individual to assist with daily office activities. This position requires working some weekends and nights. Must be computer literate with excellent data entry skills, outstanding phone etiquette, detail oriented, and able to work with internal and external customers.

Baker/Cake Decorator

Part time Baker needed with 2-5 years of experience. Food sanitation certification preferred. Must have experience decorating (Wedding, Birthday, & Shower cakes) and utilize current decorating trends (fondant, buttercream, airbrush, etc.). Responsibilities include: “From scratch” baking of all baked goods, and good customer service skills. Weekday and weekend availability is required.

Seasonal part-time positions

Part-Time Seasonal Business Office Associate

Experience with cash handling and Microsoft Excel preferred. The duties include, but are not limited to, distribute bank deposit bags to Zoo staff and maintain correct amount of money daily. Assist Cash Control Coordinator with overseeing all cash requirements for operations. Enter data from daily deposit into computer using Microsoft Excel and preparing cash summary reports. Performs data entry of cash control information and prepares consolidated weekly reports. Prepare membership applications by listing check numbers, amounts, and general identification information; balances both accounts; deposits money and reports to membership division. Assist Cash Control Coordinator with overseeing the credit card system for all cash operations and orders supplies as needed. Receives, separates, and counts monies from various donation wells throughout the zoo. Utilizes various types of equipment and machinery including an adding machine, computer, printer, copier, cash settlement machine, currency counter/endorser, coin sorter/counter, crimper, and general office supplies. This position is needed from April - September. Hours vary per week but can range from 15-28 hours per week. Applicants must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays. Part-Time Seasonal Wedding Coordinator

This position is a part time seasonal position that runs from May – October.  Duties include meeting with clients to arrange and plan events, working with Catering & Group Sales to set up, assist and tend to clients’ requests. Attendance at events is necessary to ensure complete customer satisfaction, so candidates must be available on weekends and evenings and be in professional attire. Must have excellent phone and interpersonal skills and be able to work under (some) stressful situations. Previous catering, wedding or customer service experience is required. Park Operations Exhibit Experience Position

The Toledo Zoo is seeking individuals to work a variety of Customer Experience based exhibits. These exhibits include but are not limited to the Aquarium Touch Tank (shark and ray touch opportunity), Parakeet Retreat (bird feeding opportunity), Penguin Walkthrough, and Galapagos Tortoise exhibits. These positions require outgoing, friendly and energetic individuals who engage guests at these exhibits while maintaining the safety of both guest and animals alike. Employees will be required to learn specific facts about the collection in order to answer guest questions and to better engage them during their visits.

Background in animal study/care is preferred, but not required.

Applicants must be able to stand on their feet for 8 hours, lift up to 50 lbs. and be available to work nights and weekends.

This position reports to the Special Events Supervisor in the Park Operations Department.

Catering

Catering Food Production:

Food Service

Carnivore Cafe:
Employees of the Cafe provide fast, friendly service in a cafeteria-style setting.

Concessions: Fast-paced food service with high visitor interaction and accurate cash handling.

Grounds

Roamers:
Roamers continually walk the property to clean up the litter, pull trash, clean trash cans and graphics. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.

Horticulture

Horticulture staff maintain all of the permanent landscapes and include mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, planting and maintaining the annual flower beds, rake leaves, and maintain ornamental water features. They also assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Mowing, Planting, general maintenance of landscaping, installation and removal of holiday lights displays.

Horticulture:
Horticulture staff assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.

Merchandise

Merchandise:
Employees assist visitors with merchandise selections, provide outstanding customer .service, and accurate cash handling.

Park Operations

Park Operations: Employees take care of a variety of visitor needs throughout the zoo.
