Watch Zoo animals receive enrichment as colorful easter eggs!

Friday, March 29

On the Friday before Easter Sunday, animals throughout the Zoo discover that the Easter Bunny has visited their exhibits, and they track down treat-filled enrichment eggs hidden in their habitats. In addition, the Animal Egg Hunt features a number of craft areas and story times throughout the day. The Animal Egg Hunt is more than just fun for visitors—it’s also a great form of enrichment for Zoo animals. Through enrichment, we stimulate the animals’ senses and encourage natural behaviors. It’s a key component of their over all well-being.

Win a hand-decorated ostrich egg!

New for 2013, win an authentic (hollow) Toledo Zoo ostrich egg. Look for free drawings on Zoo grounds to win an egg laid by one of the Zoo’s own ostriches and hand-decorated by the Zoo’s graphic designers; three eggs will be given away. An Easter decoration unlike anything else you’ve seen, ostrich eggs are glossy white and about the size of a small football, or roughly 24 times bigger than a chicken egg.

You have three ways to win an egg: enter the general drawing at our North Star Trading Post on Friday, March 29 (Zoo admission not required); answer a couple Animal Egg Hunt questions with your entry at Nature’s Neighborhood; or know the secret phrase we’ll share on our Facebook page during the week of March 25.
