How do I apply?
To apply for a position at the Toledo Zoo, pick up an application at our Visitor Services office which is located at the main entrance off Anthony Wayne Trail. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

Full-time Positions we are currently hiring for:
The primary responsibility of this position will be to facilitate the experiences of participants in the Zoo Snooze programs. This keeper will accomplish this working with the Snooze hosts. This position is responsible for delivering accurate, relevant and fun information/facts about a designated exhibit. Night Keepers will answer questions, include participants in keeper related activities, and assist in creating enrichment. This position requires a person able to engage both a diverse group (children as young as 5 up to adults) and a large group (50+ people) of participants.
When the keeper is not participating in Snooze programs they will be providing assistance with projects in the mammal, elephant, bird, AQ, Herpetology, and animal health and nutrition departments. These duties include but are not limited to diet preparation, record keeping, facility cleaning, animal shifting, hand-rearing of different taxa. Due to the wide variety of duties this person must be detail oriented, a motivated worker, and good communicator.
Requires an Associate degree in an applied science related to actual animal care and one to two years zookeeper experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
Under the direction of the Chief Veterinarian/Director of Animal Health & Nutrition, this individual is responsible for providing care to all zoo animals. The essential functions include: performing routine, preventative, emergency and surgical care, prescribing medication, and conducting clinical pathology and post mortem evaluations. As necessary will assist in managing the commissary operations, evaluate nutrition programs and diet formulations and provide input on animal behavior training, exhibit design and emergency escape protocols. Effective interdepartmental communication skills necessary to assist veterinary department staff, curators, zookeepers, and other staff in attaining relevant goals.
The minimum criteria requirement includes a Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine and one year of practical experience in a zoo facility. Must be able to obtain a State of Ohio Veterinary License, USDA veterinary accreditation and a DEA license. Being boarded by the American College of Zoological Medicine is preferred or must become boarded within three years of hire.
Assistant Director of Information Technology
The Toledo Zoo is seeking a full time Assistant Director of IT to manage and maintain the IT environment. This will be a working manager that will work at all levels of support including help desk, server administration, network administration, and technical support. Will also be supervising a team of IT employees. This position manages the IT Budget, IT projects and procures all IT equipment for the organization. Must be highly self-motivated with proven analytical abilities to execute the following essential tasks along with strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications:
• Microsoft Server administration: Office 365/exchange 2010 hybrid environment, Windows server 2012/2008, Windows Active Directory (AD) 2012 administration, AD group policy management, MS SQL server 2005/2008 management, backupexec 2014, WSUS, and IIS server. VMWare Sphere 5 and vRanger backup administration. PowerShell and SharePoint experience is a plus.
• Hands on technical knowledge of current networking hardware, standards and TCP/IP protocols, DNS, DHCP, ISCSI, SAN, NAS, Wireless, VOIP, Routing and switching protocols. Fortinet Firewall and HP switch experience is a plus.
• Provide high level technical support for end user desktop and laptops.
Preferred qualifications include:
• BS in Information Technology or Computer Science
• 5 years hands on experience and 3 years supervisory experience
• Microsoft server certifications and VMWare training/certification or equivalent experience in a Multi-Campus LAN environment
Year-round Part-time Positions we are currently hiring for:
This part time position will be responsible for set up and operate audio and video equipment including microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, connecting wires and cables, sound boards, and related electronic equipment for concerts, meetings, weddings, presentations, and news conferences for various departments throughout the Zoo. This position reports directly to the Information Technology Manager. Must have availability to work most weekends, evenings and some holidays.

Horticulture staff maintain all of the permanent landscapes and include mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, planting and maintaining the annual flower beds, rake leaves, and maintain ornamental water features. They also assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Mowing, Planting, general maintenance of landscaping, installation and removal of holiday lights displays.
Warehouse: Employees must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
