How do I apply?
To apply for a position at the Toledo Zoo, pick up an application at our Visitor Services office which is located at the main entrance off Anthony Wayne Trail. The office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old to apply for a position, unless the posted job states differently. In some cases a resume may also be requested for certain open positions (see individual job postings for details).

Year-round Part-time Positions we are currently hiring for:
Under limited supervision, responsible for facilitating educational activities in the Toledo Zoo’s Education Department. This includes, but is not limited to, conservation education programming, animal demonstrations, plays and skits, special events and off-grounds programming. Each programmer may be assigned a focus area within the education department, but training and assistance will be expected in other areas of the education department. This position develops curriculum for school programs, home school, assembly shows, public programs, and camps, creates supplemental materials for zoo lessons, assists in tracking and evaluating program use and effectiveness and presents all programs. Must be familiar with program standards including state education standards and scout badge requirements. Bachelor’s degree in Education or Natural Sciences or related fields and experience in environmental or wildlife education or any equivalent combination of education and experience. This position reports to the Education Program Manager.
This position requires a Bachelor Degree in education, biology or a related field as well as a minimum of one year experience in public programming in an informal setting. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo’s fleet insurance carrier.

Part time team oriented facility security needed for all shifts, 24 hours per week and may include holidays & weekends. Responsibilities include security rounds, monitoring of building intrusion/fire detection systems, air/water temperature ranges and water filtration systems. Prefer candidates with law enforcement or fire science background.
Visitor Services Office Assistant
Part-time position is available for an outgoing, articulate individual to assist with daily office activities. This position requires working some weekends and nights. Must be computer literate with excellent data entry skills, outstanding phone etiquette, detail oriented, and able to work with internal and external customers.
Part time Baker needed with 2-5 years of experience. Food sanitation certification preferred. Must have experience decorating (Wedding, Birthday, & Shower cakes) and utilize current decorating trends (fondant, buttercream, airbrush, etc.). Responsibilities include: “From scratch” baking of all baked goods, and good customer service skills.

Park Operations Exhibit Experience Position
The Toledo Zoo is seeking individuals to work a variety of Customer Experience based exhibits. These exhibits include but are not limited to the Aquarium Touch Tank (shark and ray touch opportunity), Parakeet Retreat (bird feeding opportunity), Penguin Walkthrough, and Galapagos Tortoise exhibits. These positions require outgoing, friendly and energetic individuals who engage guests at these exhibits while maintaining the safety of both guest and animals alike. Employees will be required to learn specific facts about the collection in order to answer guest questions and to better engage them during their visits.
Background in animal study/care is preferred, but not required.
Applicants must be able to stand on their feet for 8 hours, lift up to 50 lbs. and be available to work nights and weekends.
This position reports to the Special Events Supervisor in the Park Operations Department.
Catering Food Production:
Employees prepare food for a variety of in-house catered events.

Responsible for taking care of the client(s) and running catered events.

Employees of the Cafe provide fast, friendly service in a cafeteria-style setting.

Concessions: Fast-paced food service with high visitor interaction and accurate cash handling.
Positions: Concession stands, Birthday parties, Vending
Job Functions: Customer service, Food Prep, Cashier, Cleaning
Roamers continually walk the property to clean up the litter, pull trash, clean trash cans and graphics. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.

Horticulture staff maintain all of the permanent landscapes and include mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, planting and maintaining the annual flower beds, rake leaves, and maintain ornamental water features. They also assist with the installation and removal of the holiday lights for the Lights Before Christmas display. Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 to apply.
Job Functions: Mowing, Planting, general maintenance of landscaping, installation and removal of holiday lights displays.

Employees assist visitors with merchandise selections, provide outstanding customer .service, and accurate cash handling.

Job Functions: Stocking, Cashier, Cleaning, Customer Service
Employees sketch caricatures of the Zoo guests. Must have excellent drawing skills and be able to draw at the interview.
Job Functions: Duties also include great customer service, display building, tattooing, and maintaining daily procedures. Also must maintain high communication skills. These positions require previous art experience and or related schooling.
Park Operations: Employees take care of a variety of visitor needs throughout the zoo.
